Acceptable Use Policy
Effective date: August 17, 2026 · Last updated: August 17, 2026
Codex is a private notebook for your campaigns. This policy keeps it safe, lawful, and available for everyone. It forms part of the Terms of Service.
1. Use Codex lawfully
Do not use Codex to store, generate, or distribute:
- Content that is illegal under applicable law.
- Child sexual abuse material, or any sexual content involving minors, in any form, including fictional or AI-generated depictions.
- Content that facilitates real-world violence, terrorism, human trafficking, or serious criminal harm.
- Instructions for creating weapons, explosives, or other means of causing serious real-world harm.
- Malware, exploits, phishing content, or other malicious code.
- Harassment of, threats against, or targeted abuse of a real person.
Codex is for tabletop RPG campaign notes; fictional conflict and villainy in your own story notes is expected. This policy targets real-world harm, not fiction.
2. Respect other accounts and the Service
- Do not attempt to access, read, modify, or delete another user's account, campaigns, or notes.
- Do not attempt to bypass authentication, access controls, database access rules, or rate limits.
- Do not probe, scan, or attack the Service or its infrastructure, and do not attempt denial of service.
- Do not scrape, crawl, or use automated tooling to extract data from Codex beyond ordinary personal use of the app and its export feature.
- Do not reverse engineer, resell, sublicense, or rebrand Codex.
- Do not impersonate Behr Builds, Codex, or another person.
3. Use AI features responsibly
- Do not abuse AI features in a way that imposes unreasonable load, such as automated bulk or looping requests intended to consume capacity.
- Do not use AI features to generate prohibited content, including anything listed in section 1.
- Do not use Codex's AI functionality as a general-purpose backend for an unrelated product or service.
- Do not attempt to extract system prompts, other users' data, or provider credentials through prompt manipulation.
4. Respect intellectual property
Do not use Codex to reproduce and redistribute copyrighted material you have no right to, including wholesale copies of commercial rulebooks or sourcebooks. Keeping personal reference notes for a game you own is fine; building a distribution copy of someone else's published work is not.
5. Keep sensitive data out of Codex
Do not store passwords, authentication credentials, government IDs, financial or payment card details, medical records, or other highly sensitive personal information in Codex. Codex is not designed or intended for that data.
6. Enforcement
If we believe this policy has been violated, we may — depending on severity and at our discretion — warn you, limit or disable specific features, remove violating content, suspend your account, or terminate your account. Serious violations, especially those involving illegal content or attacks on the Service, may result in immediate termination and, where required or appropriate, reports to law enforcement.
7. Reporting a problem
To report abuse, a security issue, or a suspected violation, email privacy@behrbuilds.com. Please include enough detail for us to investigate. Do not include other people's sensitive personal information in your report.
8. Third-party game disclaimer
Codex is an independent note-taking and campaign organization application. Codex is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or approved by Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro, Darrington Press, Critical Role, or any other tabletop game publisher. Third-party trademarks and intellectual property remain the property of their respective owners. Codex does not provide or distribute official game rules or sourcebook content.
